Welcoming Andrew Maclean to the Pario Team

Pario Engineering & Environmental Sciences is excited to welcome Andrew Maclean as our Regional Manager, based out of our Halifax office.

Andrew’s path into engineering began with a strong aptitude for math and problem solving. While exploring careers in high school, he often wondered what he could do with this aptitude. This led him to a degree in mining geology, chosen over mechanical engineering because it offered opportunities to travel across Canada. After graduation, a downturn in the mining industry prompted him to look locally, where he landed a Project Engineer role in Fire Protection and, as he puts it, “never really looked back.”

Andrew’s journey also included time in the military, an experience that shaped his outlook and work ethic. Inspired by his older brother, who joined at 16, Andrew admired how he returned home strong, confident, and mature.  Drawn to the engineering side building bridges and, as he jokes, “blowing stuff up”, Andrew appreciated the travel, scholarship, and camaraderie the service offered. Afterward, he backpacked solo through Europe at 22.  Reflecting on it, he says the journey taught him invaluable lessons about resilience, curiosity, and embracing the unexpected.

When the opportunity arose to join Pario as Regional Manager, Andrew saw a chance to grow personally and professionally. Though comfortable leading teams and serving as a technical resource, he admits stepping into a broader management role was daunting. “I leaned a lot on my technical expertise… this was something new,” he explains. Drawing from his military experience and technical work, Andrew brings a thoughtful balance of discipline, curiosity, and teamwork to his new role. “It was a bit scary, but I’m happy I took the leap. I’m learning every day and enjoying being part of such a strong and supportive group,” he says.

Outside of work, Andrew enjoys an active, family-focused lifestyle. Once a rugby player and snowboarder, his focus has shifted to supporting his two young hockey players. A black belt in Taekwondo, he still trains and mentors within the military community. Andrew and his wife also plan travel adventures together, enjoying cruises that allow them to explore multiple destinations in one week.

Andrew appreciates the depth of work in forensic engineering, noting much goes unseen, especially around insurance and product recalls. “There’s so much that goes into even the smallest details… and it happens every day,” he says. He also values his Atlantic Canada team, which blends decades of experience with the enthusiasm of newer members. “Growing this passion is a top priority for me,” he shares, “and it’s incredibly motivating to be part of such a dynamic group.”

We’re thrilled to have Andrew on board and look forward to the leadership, expertise, and energy he brings to the Atlantic Canada team.
