Do you know your organization's level of risk?
As COVID-19 continues to change the way we work, providing a clean and disinfected workspace is paramount to the safety and security of your business. While no regulations currently exist. Industry-leading organizations such as the Environmental Abatement Council of Ontario (EACO) have established guidance regarding the varying levels of risk to a given cleaning operation. These levels are:
Level One: Precautionary Cleaning
The Precautionary Cleaning phase is designated as “specifically for projects that are precautionary or preventative, where no incident or suspicion of impact has occurred.”1This critical step involves the cleaning of particular equipment and surfaces in accordance to EACO guidelines and can be verified by an Industrial Hygienist.
Level Two: Potential Contamination
Potential contamination is defined as: “suspicion of third-party impact with a confirmed case, individual or space and/or suspected (non-confirmed) impact of any viral infection.”1
The guide advises: “Consult with a qualified health and safety professional with experience performing Infection Prevention and Control, indoor environmental investigations and remediation, prior to cleaning work activities, to provide quality assurance for the project and monitoring of compliance with these guidelines.”1
Level Three: Confirmed Contamination
Confirmed Contamination requires extensive cleaning consistent with guidelines put forth by EACO. In its guide, EACO advises: “Consult with a qualified health and safety professional with experience performing Infection Prevention and Control, indoor environmental investigations and remediation, prior to cleaning work, to develop a site-specific work plan or specification and quality assurance services for the project and monitoring of compliance with these guidelines.”1
An Industrial Hygienist helps to determine your level of risk. They are specifically trained in best practices for preventing or reducing the contamination of environmental surfaces.
